Why do I have to take an Italian test?

To enrol in a bachelor's, master's, or single-cycle master's degree programme taught in Italian, international students are required to show proficiency in Italian at a minimum level of B2, as outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Without passing the test, your application for admission cannot be accepted.

For this academic year, there are three options:

1. Submit a recognised B2 Italian language certificate, as per the Italian ministerial document (link HERE), when applying on Universitaly or by email to segreteriastudenti@unimol.it

2. Take the university online language test

3. Submit a certificate for the CISIA L2 test with a minimum score of 48/72, taken within the last three calendar years: 2024, 2025, or 2026. You can do so when applying on Universitaly or by email to segreteriastudenti@unimol.it

When can I take the test?

We recommend taking the test as soon as possible. This will allow us to process your application quickly. You can only take our University's Italian language test once.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have chosen to enrol on a course with additional academic requirements (the Italian corso ad accesso programmato), you must pass the Italian language test by 31 August. Only after passing it, in September 2026, you will be able to go on with the admission process and take the other entry tests required for admission to the course you have applied for.

The following dates are available for the B2 Italian admission test:

  • 15 July 2026 
  • 31 August 2026
  • 25 September 2026 
  • 26 October 2026 
  • 16 November 2026 

What does the test include?

The B2 Italian test for university admission lasts 35 minutes and comprises 40 questions to be completed online. It assesses your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, reading, and comprehension at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It includes true/false or multiple-choice questions. To pass the test, you need to achieve a minimum score of 24 out of 40. There is not an oral test for Italian.

How does it work?

A few days before, you will receive the credentials to access the CLA UNIMOL platform, instructions and a link to meet the selection board online on the date you have chosen. 

On the day of the test, you will connect online using the link to take the test at the scheduled time. Remember to check the time according to your time zone.

Before starting the online meeting, make sure you are in a quiet room and have the following:

  • a stable internet connection
  • headphones with a microphone
  • a webcam
  • a valid ID
  • your Moodle credentials

At the beginning of the online meeting, the selection board will identify all candidates, asking them to show their passport and face. 

After identification, you will receive information about the test and the password to access it. From then on, you can take the test, keeping your webcam on at all times.

I have not passed the B2 Italian Admission test, what can I do?

If you have not passed the B2 Italian Admission Test, you cannot do it again this year. Please consider signing up for an Italian language course before applying again next year. Another option could be to take a different test (the CISIA ITA L2 test or the CILS test) and, upon passing it, uploading the certificate on the Universitaly platform by the application deadline.

When will I get my results?

Once the test is completed, the results will be sent to the student administration office to go on with the admission process. We will also send you an email to inform you on the results.

IMPORTANT

The University Language Centre (CLA) does not issue individual certificates confirming the successful completion of Italian or English language tests.

Where required for the pre-enrolment procedure for international students, the outcome of the language proficiency assessment is communicated by the relevant University offices through the Universitaly portal, in accordance with the applicable ministerial procedures.

Any requests for verification or confirmation submitted directly by diplomatic or consular authorities will be handled by the CLA through official institutional channels.

Therefore, individual requests from students concerning the issuance of certificates, statements or confirmations of successful test completion for visa purposes will not be processed.
